Great Plates/Taste of Fort Collins by Ryan Levander

Since moving here one year ago, one thing that was unexpected but greatly appreciated has been the food; the restaurants here are top notch. The diversity, quality, and authenticity really shine through at our great eateries. Great Plates of Fort Collins celebrates all that is wondeful with the Fort Collins cuisine.2_Foodie1

Great Plates has been going on since the start of March, and we currently have two more nights left of this talk of the town festival. Fantastic deals are offered each night, which is a great incentive for residents to try different restaurants or even a new cuisine type.
Head on over to Downtown Fort Collins’ webpage to see all the restuarants participating in this fine event.2_Foodie2

Another festival we love during the year is the Taste of Fort Collins event going on June 7-9th. Taste of Fort Collins is not only a valid excuse to indulge in fine dining for the weekend, but also a chance to catch some great live music and art shows while doing so in the beautiful Colorado summertime. All the proceeds are donated to the Special Olympics Larimer County and Kiwanis Club International.

These tasty reasons are just another reason why we love living in Northern Colorado. ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday Foodie Walk tonight by Ryan Levander

Besides the endless activities and fun Northern Colorado has to offer EVERY day. There are some extra fun events on Fridays that make Fort Collins unique, fun, and diverse. The first Friday of every month marks the "First Friday" art walk in Downtown Fort Collins. And tonight, which happens to be the third Friday of the month, will be the "Foodie Walk" also taking place in the lively downtown Fort Collins scene.

Who is a foodie?  Foodies are people who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and recreation. Foodies wish to learn everything about food, the best and the ordinary, and take in the science, industry, history, and characters surrounding food.  Culinary shops in Downtown Fort Collins focus on unique quality ingredients, locally sourced and organic produce in their shops.

Downtown Fort Collins offers a culinary adventure in a beautiful historic pedestrian area of the city. The Fort Collins Foodie Walk is a self-guided walk that occurs each month and will feature new presentations, tasting opportunities, and themes each month.

For more information on the walk, check out this link HERE.

See you tonight FoCo Foodie walkers! ๐Ÿ™‚

Fort Collins Breweries in the News

This week Fox31 Denver released a video about Fort Collins breweries which account for 70% of Colorado's craft beer.  Fort Collins is gaining popularity as "The Beer Capital of Colorado" and local breweries such as New Belgium, Odell Brewing, Funkwerks, and Fort Collins Brewery are drinking up the publicity as they increase profits.  Fort Collins brewery tours continue to be a major attraction for both tourists and local residents.

Mexican Food in Fort Collins, CO

Ever since relocating from southern California my wife and I have been on the hunt for authentic mexican food in Fort Collins.  We found that the dishes served in most of the mexican food restaurants were tex-mex, not the thick carnitas, carne asada, refried beans, tamales, enchiladas, and tacos al carbon we had become accustomed to in Orange County and San Diego.  Some of the well-known restaurants in Fort Collins, Loveland, and Windsor include Rio Grande, 3 Margaritas, and Pueblo Viejo.

Perhaps slightly less popular (or advertised) is Los Tarascos located just south of Mulberry on College Avenue.  Los Tarascos offers a full salsa bar with a delicious variety of salsas ranging in ingredients and flavor.  The green avacado-celantro salsa and the frothy tomato-tomatillo salsa are very good.  Even without the added benefit of the salsa bar, the food is absolutely delicious.

Our family had dinner with another family last night at Los Tarascos and once again we were all completely satisfied with the food and drinks.  I love their house margarita and chicken enchiladas de los tarascos, which are smothered in a cheesy-sour cream white sauce.  Carne asada and chili verde were also favorite plates last night.

We are still trying new mexican food restaurants in Northern Colorado, and for now we think Los Tarascos offers some of the best mexican food we have found in Fort Collins.
